German growers boost efficiency and cut labor costs with WPS SmartFlo

Across the border in Germany, innovation is in full bloom. Two forward-thinking growers—Van Adrichem in Geldern and Gärtnerei Köllen in Rommerskirchen—have recently upgraded their operations with cutting-edge WPS SmartFlo systems. While their crops and business models differ, they share a common goal: working smarter, not harder. And with SmartFlo, they’re doing exactly that—dramatically increasing efficiency and reducing labor costs.

Van Adrichem: Embracing a smarter workflow

Van Adrichem, a dynamic grower of potted plants such as lavender and primulas, made the leap to SmartFlo late last year. Their facility in Geldern presented a unique challenge with its elevation differences in the greenhouse, but our team worked closely with them to deliver a seamless, tailored solution.

Switching from traditional mobile conveyors to fixed WPS transport conveyors has transformed the way Van Adrichem operates. With no need to constantly reposition the conveyors, the team now saves valuable time every day—resulting in measurable labor savings from day one. What’s more, Van Adrichem took an active role in assembling part of the system themselves, with WPS providing expert guidance and on-site support wherever needed. It’s a great example of partnership-driven progress.

At Gärtnerei Köllen, innovation is nothing new. Since 2017, this leading herb grower—known for top-quality basil, parsley, and coriander—has trusted SmartFlo to optimize their processes. Over the years, they’ve expanded the system multiple times, both inside and outside the greenhouse, continually boosting their efficiency and saving on labor.

Today, the entire greenhouse runs on fixed conveyors, providing smooth and reliable plant transport. Outdoors, Köllen still uses some mobile conveyors for longer-standing crops—but not for long. Plans are already in motion to expand fixed conveyor use outside as well, taking their efficiency to the next level.
